Jindřich Kàan (1852–1926)

Czech composer, pianist and teacher, from 1889 professor of piano and, from 1907, director of the Prague Conservatoire, and a close friend of Dvořák. Kàan accompanied Dvořák on his first trip to England in March 1884, he taught the piano to Dvořák’s daughters Otilie and Anna, and he arranged the piano score of Dvořák’s cantata The Spectre’s Bride. Dvořák visited him on various occasions at his farm in Roudná near Tábor.
