|Czech music critic, organiser of music events, author of studies on Russian music, translator from Russian. Kalensky was the chief editor of a festschrift dedicated to Dvorak, published by the artists’ association Umelecka beseda in 1912. He, himself, wrote a lengthy study which took up a considerable part of this commemorative volume: “Antonin Dvorak, his early days, episodes from his life, and his progression towards independence”. The study provides an important source material, particularly regarding the circumstances surrounding the composer’s youth, since Kalensky, a close friend of Dvorak, based his work on events Dvorak, himself, had described to him. Kalensky also wrote a biography on Dvorak which was never published.
