Karel Knittl (1853–1907)

Czech music teacher, composer and conductor. As choirmaster of the Hlahol choral society, he performed several of Dvořák’s choral works with his choir: From the Bouquet of Slavonic Folk Songs, the first version of Psalm 149, the second version of the Hymn “The Heirs of White Mountain”, and the cycle In Nature’s Realm. From 1889 he taught at the Prague Conservatoire and was later its administrative director during Dvořák’s tenure there as artistic director.
