Lachner, Ferdinand (1856 - 1910)

Violinist, professor at the Prague Conservatoire. He participated in many performances of Dvorak’s works, some of which were premieres (Bagatelles, Mazurek, Piano Trio in F minor, “Dumky” Piano Trio). In 1892 Dvorak, together with Lachner and cellist Hanus Wihan, travelled on a “farewell” concert tour of Czech and Moravian towns and cities before the composer’s departure for the United States. The three musicians performed forty chamber concerts whose programmes featured Dvorak’s chamber works. In the summer of 1878 Lachner and Dvorak travelled around the Sumava mountains together. Lachner was also one of his quartet partners in chamber music performed in an informal environment away from the concert platform.
